Team Selection Announcements

The team selection committee, coaches, and the MCSA Board of Directors have approved the attached team assignments for the 2013-2014 hockey season.  After careful review of the spring evaluation results, with input from the coaching staff, parents, and approval by the Board, the following tier levels are in effect for next season:

  • Squirts – Two Tier IV teams, along with an Extended Play team to be announced at the start of the season.
  • Peewees – One Tier III team and one Tier IV team.
  • Bantams - One Tier III team and one Tier IV team.

Squirts
We are planning to offer an Extended Play option to a select group of Squirt-aged players with advanced skills.  Details regarding additional practices, games, and the EP roster will be made available at the start of next season.

Peewees
The decision was made to keep the total number of skaters at 10 (plus the goalie) for the Peewee Tier III team.  Doing so provides flexibility and an appropriate number of players at the Tier IV level.

Bantams
Due to the various alternative options of play for the Bantam age group (Ice Cats, Windjammers, and the potential of a JV high school team), we are naming 9 skaters and 1 goalie to the Bantam Tier III team at this time.  However, the coaching staff and selection committee want to see what we have for returning players and the interest level of this age group next fall.  With only 9 skaters, the coaches will have the option to move a player or two to the Tier III team at the start of the season as well.

Bantam Goalies
Due to the narrow margin of evaluation scores, the coaching staff and selection committee wants to re-evaluate the 5 remaining goalies at the beginning of next season.  The group feels an additional evaluation of technical skills is necessary to determine the remaining goalie spots.  The second goalie spot for the Tier III team and the remaining goalie spots on the Tier IV team will be decided at that time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Steve Hand (Player Development Director), Dave Daniello (Coaching Director), Jesse Simko (Skating Development), John Magri (MCSA Vice President), or Vin Contento (MCSA President).

On behalf of the MCSA board, we hope you enjoyed your season and look forward to seeing you back in September/October for what is sure to be another blockbuster season.   We've got fresh ideas and we'll be working hard all summer to build a bigger, better, faster, "funner" MCSA than ever before.

Please contact info@mainecoastskaters.org if you have any questions regarding our programs or if you would like to get involved with planning for the 2013-14 season.  We could really use your help.
